Job Overview
Location: Woodstock, Ontario
Structure: Semi-detached bungalow with front and back deck
Problem: Rat activity reported on the exterior and interior
Service: Rat control and monitoring
Visits: 3
Summary
We were called to address confirmed rat activity affecting both the exterior perimeter and interior spaces of a semi-detached bungalow. Our team completed a multi-visit rat control program focused on exterior population reduction and ongoing monitoring. Activity declined steadily, and by the final visit no further interior activity was reported.
Background / Property Context
The structure included multiple deck interfaces and low foundation areas where exterior elements met siding and trim. These transition points can create concealed gaps if materials shift or deteriorate over time.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported seeing rats outside the home and signs of activity indoors. There was concern about ongoing access points and the potential for continued interior intrusion.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our technician Andrew confirmed rat activity. Multiple exterior gaps were observed at deck-to-wall junctions and along the foundation line where siding terminated above concrete. Interior inspection areas showed staining and conditions consistent with rodent travel along base-level voids.

Cause Analysis
Rats commonly exploit ground-level gaps created by decks, settlement, or uneven transitions between siding and foundation. These areas provide concealed access and protection from predators. Once established outside, repeated access increases the likelihood of interior entry through shared wall and utility pathways.
Treatment / Removal
A licensed exterminator carried out rat control in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Large, weighted, tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were installed around the exterior in areas of high activity to reduce the larger outdoor population. Interior conditions were monitored as part of the service plan.

Exclusion & Repairs
A full exterior exclusion inspection was completed during the first visit. Multiple potential entry points were identified, and exclusion work was quoted for future remediation. No physical exclusion or repairs were performed during these visits.
Outcome & Confirmation
Follow-up visits showed repeated bait consumption, indicating active population reduction. By the third visit, the homeowner reported no further rat activity inside the home. No new concerns were raised at that time.
Technician Notes
- Visit 1: Activity confirmed. Exterior bait stations installed. Full exclusion inspection completed; multiple gaps noted at deck and foundation interfaces.
- Visit 2: Stations rebaited due to high ongoing activity, confirming continued exterior pressure.
- Visit 3: No interior activity reported. Monitoring indicated improvement, and the customer expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
