Exterior Rat Control and Monitoring — Woodstock

Job Overview

Location: Woodstock, Ontario
Structure: Detached bungalow with front and back deck
Problem: Exterior rat activity reported; no interior signs observed
Service: Exterior rat treatment and monitoring
Visits: 3

Summary

We completed a three-visit exterior rat control program at a detached bungalow in Woodstock. Activity was confirmed outside the structure, with no evidence of interior infestation. Exterior baiting and monitoring reduced activity over subsequent visits, and the customer reported no further sightings by the final check.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached bungalow with both front and back decks. Landscaping and ground cover were present along the foundation, creating sheltered travel paths along exterior walls and deck edges.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported seeing rats on the exterior of the property and requested an inspection to confirm activity and identify potential entry points. There were no reports of interior noise or damage.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial inspection, exterior rat activity was confirmed. Multiple exterior gaps and vulnerable points were observed along the foundation and service penetrations. No interior signs such as droppings, gnawing, or nesting were identified at the time of inspection.

Photos provided show disturbed debris and insulation-like material in exterior-adjacent voids, gaps at foundation and service penetrations, and exterior monitoring equipment placed along active travel routes.

Cause Analysis

Exterior rat activity was likely supported by ground-level access along the foundation and sheltered areas created by decks and landscaping. Small gaps at service penetrations and along the foundation can allow rodents to travel and forage without entering the living space. Seasonal food availability and cover can increase exterior pressure around residential structures.

Treatment / Removal

On the first visit, our technician Shaohua installed large, weighted, tamper-resistant bait stations on the exterior in areas of confirmed activity. Stations contained commercial-grade rodenticide and were positioned to target the exterior population only. All pest control work was performed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines.

Exclusion & Repairs

An exterior exclusion inspection identified multiple potential entry points. Exclusion options were reviewed with the homeowner; however, no exclusion work was completed during this service period.

Outcome & Confirmation

During the second visit, bait stations showed very low levels of activity and consumption, indicating a reduction in exterior pressure. By the third visit, the homeowner reported no further rat activity on the property. Exterior monitoring confirmed no ongoing issues at the time of service completion.

Technician Notes

Exterior-only activity was confirmed and addressed through monitored baiting. Continued low consumption suggested effective control of the exterior population. Exclusion remains recommended to reduce future risk if conditions change.
